Which Zone Arrow Is Right for You?

Different competitions. Different demands. Find the arrow built for yours.
There is no single arrow that is best for every archer, every bow and every competition.
Recurve, compound and barebow place different demands on an arrow. So do different release methods, draw lengths, draw weights, shooting distances and competition formats.
A shaft optimized for a single-distance 70-meter target round may not be the best solution for a field course where distance changes from target to target. An arrow that gives one bow the ideal balance of speed and stability may behave differently from another setup.
The same applies to the archer.
A shorter draw length or restricted draw weight can make arrow efficiency much more important—especially when the competition still requires shooting at longer distances.
That is why at Zone, we do not believe the most expensive arrow is automatically the best arrow for every competition.
And we do not believe one arrow should be expected to do everything.
Built for the Event. Designed to Tune Quickly. Ready to Compete.
Zone develops performance arrows around the demands of real competition.
Different shaft profiles, diameters, materials, stiffness distributions and overall arrow mass create different performance characteristics. Those differences can affect speed, wind drift, stability, trajectory and tuning behaviour.
Change the shooting environment, and the importance of those characteristics changes with it.
Our approach is not to hide those differences.
We design around them.
The goal is to give archers different performance tools for different competitive challenges—and help them choose the characteristics that best match the way they shoot.
At the same time, performance should not require unnecessary complexity.
An experienced archer should not have to rebuild an entire bow setup simply because they change arrows.
When the correct model and spine are selected, Zone arrows are designed to reach a familiar competition-ready tuning window with minimal adjustment.

Different Designs for Different Challenges
Every arrow design involves trade-offs.
A lighter arrow can preserve more speed and produce a flatter trajectory, which can be particularly valuable for lower-energy setups.
Additional mass may provide advantages in other situations.
A smaller diameter can reduce wind exposure, while shaft profile and stiffness distribution can influence how an arrow responds during launch and through flight.
A tapered shaft and a parallel shaft therefore do not need to solve exactly the same problem.
There is no single specification that wins every comparison.
What matters is finding the combination that best matches:
your bow, your shooting style and the competition in front of you.
That philosophy is why Zone offers several distinctly different performance-arrow designs.
Podium X A/C
Precision for long-distance target competition
Podium X A/C is Zone's 3.2 mm tapered aluminum/carbon competition shaft.
Its small diameter, tapered profile and high-precision construction are designed around high-level target shooting, where consistency, wind performance and tight grouping are critical.
For archers primarily focused on long-distance target competition—particularly where the shooting distance remains consistent throughout the event—Podium X A/C provides a highly specialized performance platform.
Its tapered construction also means PXAC should not simply be treated as another parallel target shaft.
Spine, finished arrow length, point weight and bow setup work together to determine the final dynamic behaviour of the arrow.
For some higher-poundage and longer-draw setups, particularly among archers moving from familiar high-performance target shafts, a slightly stiffer PXAC can provide a more familiar launch response and reduce the amount of adjustment required to the existing bow setup.
The objective is not complicated tuning.
It is to select the right starting point and bring the arrow into the archer's preferred competition setup as efficiently as possible.
Best suited to:Long-distance target competition, high-level recurve and compound setups, and archers looking for specialized small-diameter tapered A/C performance.
APEX
Predictable performance. Straightforward tuning.
APEX uses a 3.2 mm parallel aluminum/carbon construction.
The parallel profile provides familiar and predictable tuning behaviour, making it a strong choice for archers who want premium small-diameter A/C performance without introducing unnecessary complexity into an established bow setup.
For many experienced target archers, the transition is straightforward:
start with a familiar spine range, establish the correct finished arrow length, and complete normal bow tuning.
Parallel construction also makes spine selection more intuitive for archers coming from other conventional target shafts.
APEX therefore offers a different solution from PXAC.
Rather than emphasizing the characteristics of a tapered shaft, it prioritizes predictable behaviour and ease of setup while retaining the benefits of a small-diameter A/C construction.
Best suited to:Target archers who prioritize straightforward tuning, familiar dynamic behaviour and consistent small-diameter A/C performance.
Speed X 3.2
Speed and stability across changing distances
Speed X 3.2 is a small-diameter full-carbon tapered shaft designed to balance speed, stability and performance across changing distances.
That makes it particularly well suited to field archery and other multi-distance formats, where the same arrow may need to perform at short, medium and long distances during a single event.
In these competitions, optimizing an arrow around only one distance is not necessarily the best solution.
Maintaining predictable performance as distance changes can be more important.
Speed X also addresses another competitive challenge: limited available launch energy.
During testing, Mel highlighted the importance of this for archers with shorter draw lengths or restricted draw weights who still need to shoot demanding competition distances.
Youth archers are an obvious example. Some para archers may face similar setup limitations.
When draw length or draw weight is restricted, the archer has less available energy to work with. In those situations, an efficient lightweight shaft can help preserve arrow speed and produce a more manageable trajectory at longer distances without requiring additional bow weight.
Speed X therefore combines two important characteristics:
efficient long-distance performance and consistency across changing distances.
Best suited to:Field and multi-distance competition, youth and lower-poundage setups, some para-archery applications, and archers looking for a fast small-diameter carbon shaft for longer-distance shooting.
Speed GT 4.0
Efficient speed. Familiar tuning. Broad usability.
Speed GT takes a different approach.
Its 4 mm parallel construction provides straightforward tuning and predictable behaviour while offering an efficient setup for target shooting.
For archers who already understand parallel shafts, the transition is simple. There is no need to learn a completely different tuning philosophy simply because the arrow has changed.
Like Speed X, Speed GT can also be particularly useful when available bow energy is limited.
Archers with shorter draw lengths or restricted draw weights may still be required to shoot 50, 60 or 70 meters in competition.
For youth competitors—and for some para archers whose setup limits draw length or draw weight—preserving arrow speed can become a practical performance requirement rather than simply a preference.
An efficient arrow setup can help maintain a flatter trajectory and make longer-distance shooting more manageable.
Where Speed X combines that efficiency with a tapered 3.2 mm construction and an emphasis on multi-distance performance, Speed GT offers a simpler parallel-shaft solution with familiar tuning characteristics.
Best suited to:Youth archers, shorter-draw or lower-poundage setups, some para-archery applications, and shooters wanting efficient long-distance target performance with straightforward parallel-shaft tuning.
The Most Expensive Arrow Is Not Always the Right Arrow
It is easy to compare arrows by price and assume that the most expensive model must automatically be the highest-performing choice.
Competition is more complicated than that.
A specialized long-distance target shaft may offer advantages in one environment, while a different construction may perform better across constantly changing distances.
A high-poundage international-level archer and a young athlete shooting a shorter draw length may be trying to solve completely different equipment problems—even when they stand on the same shooting line.
One shooter may benefit from the characteristics of a tapered A/C shaft.
Another may gain more from a lightweight carbon arrow.
Another may value the simplicity and predictable tuning of a parallel construction.
None of those choices is automatically inferior.
The objective is not to buy the most expensive arrow.
The objective is to choose the right performance characteristics for the competition you actually shoot.
That is the principle behind the Zone range.
Performance Without Unnecessary Complexity
Specialized equipment does not need to mean complicated equipment.
A performance arrow should work with the archer—not force the archer to rebuild an established setup around the arrow.
That principle influences the way Zone approaches both shaft design and spine selection.
For our parallel shafts, archers can generally begin from the spine range they already understand from comparable target equipment.
For specialized designs such as Podium X A/C, the starting point may differ slightly depending on draw length, draw weight, finished arrow length and point weight.
But the objective remains the same:
make the transition predictable, minimize unnecessary adjustment and get the archer back to competition shooting quickly.
Testing with experienced archers has shown that when the starting setup is correct, significant changes are often unnecessary.
That is exactly what we want from a competition arrow.
Small Margins Matter
Equipment does not replace technique, training or execution.
But competitive archery is often decided by very small margins.
One point can change a qualification position.
A few points can change a match.
And a few points can separate the podium from everyone behind it.
The purpose of performance equipment is to help the archer reduce compromises and find those small margins wherever possible.
That is why Zone does not try to make one arrow answer every question.
Instead, we develop different performance arrows for different competitive demands—giving archers the ability to choose the design that makes the most sense for the challenge in front of them.
Different competitions. Different demands. Different performance solutions.
Because sometimes the right equipment choice is another opportunity to find the points that matter.
